Blood Bank

The Blood Bank of the Municipality of Glyfada is based exclusively on the institution of voluntary blood donation and operates within the framework of the social policy of the Municipality.

The purpose of the Blood Bank of the Municipality of Glyfada is:

  • The creation of a permanent blood supply to meet the needs of the residents of the Municipality.

  • The provision of assistance in finding blood for the emergency needs of the citizens – residents of the Municipality.

  • The development of a spirit of solidarity and volunteerism in the local community.

The Blood Bank of our Municipality was created by the Municipal Authority on October 3, 2014 – at the beginning of the first term of office of the Mayor of Glyfada George Papanikolaou – and since then it covers the needs of the citizens in blood (emergencies or incidents requiring large quantities of blood, sufferers of thalassemia, kidney patients, hemophiliacs, people without relatives, etc.).

Our Municipality, in cooperation with the Asclepius Voula, organizes 2 blood donations per year (as well as extraordinary ones) in which the contribution of our fellow citizens is invaluable in value, a process which is the highest act of love and solidarity towards our fellow man. According to official figures, 600,000 units are needed annually to meet the needs of the whole country. Only 40% of these are covered by volunteer blood donors, which shows the huge value of this offer.
