Free memory screening against Alzheimer’s disease
With a substantial action the Municipality of Glyfada honors this year the World Alzheimer’s Day (September 21).
According to research from the University of Cambridge, one in three cases of the disease is preventable, as it appears that the key risk factors for developing the disease can be changed if we want to. Early diagnosis of this disease, with its many facets, is very important.
On the initiative of Mayor George Papanikolaou, the Municipality of Glyfada (Department of Welfare, Social Policy and Gender Equality) in cooperation with the IASIS Glyfada Day Centre of IASIS AMKE will conduct a free preventive memory screening for people aged 55 years and older, on Friday, September 19th from 10:00 in the morning to 1:00 at noon, at the Old City Hall of Glyfada (Saki Karagiorgas and Poseidonos Avenue).
Those interested can participate by booking an appointment at
210 9647021 (ext. 1), from Monday 15/9 to Thursday 18/9 (8:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m., Eftychia Papadopoulou).
The free diagnostic test will be carried out by the scientific staff of the IASIS Day Centre and the duration of the test is 15 minutes/person.
During the examination, scientific staff will be available to talk to caregivers of patients with dementia.
“This year we are again taking this important action to prevent a disease that millions of people around the world and their families are experiencing. Early diagnosis is very important to manage the disease more effectively and ensure the quality of life of the patient. We are very grateful to the IASIS Non-Profit Civil Society, we thank for the coordination the responsible of our municipal authority Eleni Karachou and the scientific staff of the Social Service of our Municipality and we commit that these actions will continue and intensify”, stresses the Mayor of Glyfada George Papanikolaou.
