Free screening tests for Osteoporosis

The Municipality of Glyfada in cooperation with the Skeletal Health Association “Butterfly” is conducting a free bone density screening this year, aiming to inform about Osteoporosis, its prevention and treatment.

This important action will take place on two dates, Tuesday 21 and Wednesday 22 October, from 10:00 am to 1:00 pm, at the Old Town Hall of Glyfada (2, Poseidonos Beach Avenue and Saki Karagiorgas, opposite the Church of Saints Constantine and Helen).

The examinations will be performed under the medical supervision of the Endocrinologist Mr. Sarantos Livadas.

The test is painless, quick and safe and will be performed using an ankle ultrasound.

The invitation to the event is open to people of all ages who are interested in learning about a health issue that can easily turn into a problem with serious consequences.

“Osteoporosis has been described as a ‘silent disease’ that we can prevent. Early diagnosis is very important and this is achieved by measuring bone density. The test is painless, quick and safe. We are very grateful to the Skeletal Health Association “Butterfly”, a non-profit association officially recognized by the International Osteoporosis Foundation and the World Health Organization, which gives us the opportunity to offer Glyfadians free of charge this important test”, stresses the Mayor of Glyfada George Papanikolaou.

“In the actions of prevention of both mental and physical health such as this, this initiative is part of a series of activities in which the Municipal Authority proceeds through the Social Service. We are grateful”, says Deputy Mayor of Social Care and Solidarity Eleni Karahou – Skoutari, who coordinates the action.
