The play “The Doctor in Spite of Himself” is a spastic comedy of the era, with the subject of of the doctors that Molière satirized through so many plays. She went up for for the first time in 1666 at the Palais Royale theatre and triumphed to such an extent that it that it has since become the most widely read and performed by the Molière, who even played the role of Sganarello.

The case: Zerontes does not want his daughter, Lucinda, to marry the man she loves and she pretends to be sick to avoid an unwanted marriage to the wealthy Horace whom he intends for her to marry. While looking for a doctor for her, she runs into the woodcutter Sganarello. The pseudo-doctor, without realizing it, becomes an accomplice to the of two lovers…
