“The Imaginary Patient” is a play by Molière that deals with the story of a man who is convinced that he is seriously ill, although in reality he has no illness at all. The protagonist, Argan, is a comic figure who is obsessed with his health and tries to convince those around him of his condition. Molière uses comedy to satirize the medical science of his time, highlighting Argan’s naivety and the exploitation he suffers at the hands of doctors. With a combination of humor and social criticism, Molière offers a timeless portrayal of human nature and the misconceptions surrounding health.
