Theatre : Backgammon
Monday 22 September
Opening time : 20:30
Fontas (Antonis Krombas) and Kolias (Alexandros Rigas), two friends and brothers-in-law, wake up from their midday siesta and follow their ritual: coffee, backgammon champions and the search for the business that will make them rich and important. Phonah, an inactive visionary of easy money, generates ideas ready to be cashed in. Kolias, a lottery man with a resistance fighter’s past – or so he claims – resists easy ideas. Until Fonta convinces him of the great times ahead. Two characters are authentic, folksy and completely recognisable. They tolerate and exploit each other. During their conversation, the tones rise. Social types leave and mouths open and truths are told. Truths that hurt and trouble. Soon, they recall each other and continue “single-mindedly” to make their plans for overseas travel and exploitation of people and needs. With illusion as their common denominator, they aim to become great people, but they are heading for becoming petty a monsters.
Direction: Alexandros Rigas
