In our Glyfada the bikes don’t wait!

“The most “advanced” part of the project is without a doubt the last section, from Glyfada to the Town Hall of Vari – Voula – Vouliagmeni, which is expected to be delivered in its entirety by the beginning of April. This is largely due to the initiative of the Municipality of Glyfada that preceded the Prime Minister’s announcement, with the starting point in 2014 and the completion of the basic infrastructure in the spring of 2024. As the mayor of Glyfada, George Papanikolaou, recalls, “we faced the whole pathogenesis of the coastal front, we claimed and took responsibilities, we confronted arbitrariness, we evicted shops and we operated in the public interest”. Today, in the 2.6-kilometre-long section of Glyfada, which crosses the entire Diadochou Pavlos coastal road, a pedestrian and cycle path is being developed with all the accompanying works (planting, lighting, urban equipment, etc.) in direct visual contact with the sandy beach and the sea”.

These are among other things mentioned in an article in the newspaper “Kathimerini”, which we thank for highlighting the work that is being done in our city. The use of bicycles in Glyfada is rapidly evolving into a basic way of life and sustainable urban mobility, supported by significant investments in infrastructure and encouragement from the municipal authority. The city aims to become environmentally friendly, reducing car use and improving the quality of life for residents.

In a related post, the Mayor of Glyfada George Papanikolaou stresses:

“In our Glyfada the bicycles do not wait!

The single bike and pedestrian path in front of our city’s beach has been completed for some time.

We thank the newspaper Kathimerini for the detailed report and for highlighting the project in Glyfada, which took a lot of effort to complete.

We are already operating a network of shared electric bikes in the city, with eight stations in different neighbourhoods.

Next May we will participate in the international cycling race of the country, supporting and strengthening in every way cycling as a means of transport and a way of life.

On our beach, at the same time, the vertical routes for pedestrians and cyclists are almost completed, along with many accompanying projects.

We are also creating new, large and open spaces for sports and recreation, which I will come back to in detail very soon.”
