More than 120 people screened for Osteoporosis

The two-day action of the Municipality of Glyfada on Osteoporosis, which was held on the initiative of Mayor George Papanikolaou, in cooperation with the Skeletal Health Association “Butterfly”, was successfully completed today at the Old Town Hall.

More than 120 people underwent a free preventive bone density test, under the medical supervision of the Endocrinologist Mr. Sarantos Livadas.

The test was painless, quick and safe and was performed using an ankle ultrasound.

“Osteoporosis has been described as a ‘silent disease’ that we can prevent. Early diagnosis is very important and this is achieved by measuring bone density. We are very grateful to the Skeletal Health Association “Butterfly”, a non-profit association officially recognized by the International Osteoporosis Foundation and the World Health Organization, which gives us the opportunity to offer Glyfadians free of charge this important test, “said the Mayor of Glyfada George Papanikolaou.

“In the actions of prevention of both mental and physical health such as this, this initiative is part of a series of activities in which the Municipal Authority proceeds through the Social Service. We are grateful”, said Deputy Mayor of Social Care and Solidarity Eleni Karahou – Skoutari, who coordinated the action.
