Extensive asphalt paving program featuring a new design model in the Municipality of Glyfada
In his remarks, Glyfada Mayor George Papanikolaou emphasizes:
For years on end, it could be something like a line from a song:
“….Our path has been torn apart by others….” 
No more! No more patchwork solutions, no more of the “dig, lay pipes, fiber optics, etc., and patch it up by slapping a quick layer of asphalt on top” approach.
A decades-old bad practice is finally being eradicated.
We are systematically upgrading our road network with new asphalt paving.
Before we begin work on any street, our primary goal is to ensure that all outstanding issues with the utility companies (Natural Gas, EYDAP, HEDNO, fiber optics).
In Ano Glyfada in particular, where we are beginning extensive asphalt paving work, we first conducted door-to-door outreach on 25 streets.
Our goal? To ensure that anyone who wants to connect to the natural gas network has the chance to do so before the new asphalt is laid.
Here is a typical example:
On Ithaki Street, which was the first street where this process was implemented, 42 connections were ultimately made. In other words, if the road had been paved first, it would have inevitably required digging at 42 different points along the brand-new street!
In the photos, you can see Tsitsani Street near the Golf Club, where the paving has been completed.
This is immediately followed by the remaining section of Lazaraki Street (from Metaxa to Lambraki).
We would like to extend our sincere thanks to the Region of Attica for funding these two roads.
Next, we head up to Ano Glyfada.
We’re starting on Dervenakion Street (where we’ve just finished a major engineering project in the ravine) and moving on to Ithaki, Ivis, and Tempon Streets, as the companies’ work there has now been completed.
The design and timelines of our projects depend directly on the preliminary work carried out by these companies.
We are taking a wait-and-see approach for one reason only:
Let us protect municipal property and put an end once and for all to this unacceptable back-and-forth.
