The Municipality of Glyfada has placed 200 Brown Bins for organic waste recycling at 162 locations throughout the city. These bins accept organic materials such as fruit and vegetables, dairy products, food scraps, meat and fish, coffee grounds and filters, branches, soil, grass clippings, shells, sawdust, and firewood ash.
Paper Recycling (Yellow Bins)
The Municipality of Glyfada has placed 68 Yellow Bins for paper recycling throughout the city. These bins accept cardboard and paper.
Glass Packaging Recycling (Blue Bells)
The Municipality of Glyfada has placed 69 Blue Glass Packaging Recycling Bells throughout the city. These bins are called “Bells” (Κωδωνες) because of their distinctive bell-shaped design. They are used for recycling glass packaging such as bottles from drinks, wine, soft drinks, water, and jars from oil, jams, honey, tomato paste, etc.
Lamp Recycling
The Municipality of Glyfada has placed 10 Lamp Recycling Bins throughout the city. These bins are specifically designed for recycling various types of lamps, including fluorescent, discharge, sodium, and incandescent lamps.
Recycling of Electrical Appliances
The Municipality of Glyfada has placed 8 Recycling Bins for Electrical Appliances throughout the city. In these bins, you can recycle large and small household appliances, IT and telecommunications equipment, toys, entertainment and sports equipment, monitoring and control instruments, and more.
Additionally, the Municipality collects large electrical appliances from homes upon request by residents.
Home Garden Composter
It is a natural process that transforms organic materials, through decomposition, into a rich substance called compost, which acts as a soil conditioner or, in other words, a natural fertilizer valuable for every garden.
The pilot program for Household Composting that the Municipality of Glyfada is implementing is expected to give a significant boost to recycling and source separation of household waste.
The necessary equipment is delivered FREE of charge to the households of our city, as funding for this program was secured in the previous period through European funds (ESPA).
Clothes and Shoe Recycling (Purple Bins)
The Municipality of Glyfada has placed 52 purple recycling bins for clothes and shoes throughout the city. By reducing the amount of rubbish that ends up in landfills, the Municipality is saving resources and energy while helping to create a cleaner and healthier environment.
Every citizen removes around 15 kg of clothing from their wardrobe every year, but unfortunately only a small portion is reused or recycled, with most ending up in the trash and harming the environment. Old clothes, shoes, and any other fabric can be reused. Through the recycling of clothes, materials can be produced for car seat fillings, mattresses, carpet coatings, furniture fillings, and thermal and sound insulation. For example, recycling old jeans provides raw material for insulation in house construction.
Good quality, clean clothes can also be donated to charities, non-profit organizations, homeless shelters, and similar institutions.
Green Waste Recycling (Branches) (Green Bins)
Pioneering Branch Removal Service by the Municipality of Glyfada!
Thanks to European funding, the Municipality has supplied green waste collection bins and a special vehicle for their transportation. Residents who plan to carry out gardening work at their homes should call 15464 or submit a request through Fix My City at least one day in advance.
The City will provide the bin free of charge, so that cut branches can be placed directly inside and transported for recycling. This approach helps prevent damage to sidewalks, frees cleaning machines for other tasks, and improves the overall efficiency of neighborhood maintenance.
Glyfada is a clean and welcoming city—and every day it becomes even more beautiful.
