Revelation at the Formula Student Festival in Glyfada

In 2026 there will be 3 car assembly lines in Greece

A wonderful, three-day event, which made news, took place from Friday to yesterday, Sunday, in the sunny, outdoor area of the Old Town Hall of Glyfada. For the second consecutive year, the Formula Student Festival was organized in our city, with the cooperation of the Municipality of Glyfada and Car and Driver, under the auspices of the Ministry of Education, Religious Affairs and Sports.

During the event, an important announcement was made for the Greek industry, especially in the automotive sector. In front of the Mayor of Glyfada George Papanikolaou and the students of the polytechnic schools that compete in the Formula Student competitions, Mr. Tasos Damilos, executive director of FMS and member of the American E2 Mobility, spoke about the future of the automotive industry as a whole, but focused on the future of our country, revealing that in 2026 there will be three car production lines in Greece:

“Next year there will be three assembly lines in Greece. And in three years there will be an agreement with Saudi Arabia. Young engineers have a future in Greece – don’t leave,” he said.

Regarding the difficulties that this project may encounter in our country, he replied:

“In Greece there is a problem that prevents us from having a car industry: there are no experienced workers to work in the factories. Companies prefer to go to countries with experienced workers. We have found solutions now, so that we can build something new and also train the people who will create it. The Greek government has decided to build a production line in Greece, the funds are there from Europe, and we just need to prove that we deserve to take advantage of them. It takes effort, but we are steelworkers and we will succeed.

Opening the event, the Mayor of Glyfada George Papanikolaou welcomed the co-organizers and participants and pointed out that now the organization of the Festival can be established in our city, stressing that soon a new venue will be opened that will be able to host it.

“The young people are here ! They are innovating, dreaming, excelling and evolving. We should believe in them. Let’s encourage them,” he said. He added: “We thank Car and Driver very much for the cooperation, we thank you for being here for the second year and we think that now this event can be established here in Glyfada, we are happy and proud of you guys for your achievements, for all that you create, for the momentum of your effort. The area you represent has very big challenges and you all have a lot of options ahead of you, to move forward in both automotive innovations and in all that you do that is needed for all of us. We all want there to be worthy people to move things forward. We will soon have a new venue available, with an auditorium for these events, where the speeches will be held and at the same time the vehicles can be displayed in the outdoor area. So we look forward to seeing you in the new space that is here, just up the road. Once again we welcome you, thank you very much for the honour of these three days to be here, with us, and for all of us to be proud and admire your achievements. Good luck.”

The event was honored with the presence and active participation and speech of the Deputy Minister of Interior, responsible for Local Government, Vassilis Spanakis, as well as the Secretary General of Sports George Mavrotas.

Also present were Deputy Mayors and Municipal Councillors of Glyfada.

Students from the Technical Schools of the National Technical University of Athens, Crete, Kozani and Patras presented their own Formula cars, their journey through time and the global distinctions they have won in international competitions.

“We learn what cooperation, perseverance and creativity mean”, they stressed in their speeches.

Congratulations to all!
