The most extensive maintenance, renovation, and energy-efficiency upgrades ever carried out in schools! 💡
You enjoy your summer, we’re getting ready! Bright, renovated, well-maintained, and safe—our schools in Glyfada will welcome the educational community in a month. The summer months are ideal for intensive maintenance and renovation work, and this year the effort has been greater than ever before.
In his remarks, Glyfada Mayor George Papanikolaou emphasized:
“We’re changing their lights… literally! 🙂
Now that our schools are closed for summer break, we’re making the most of every day.
When the first bell rings in September, we want our students and teachers to return to an environment that is even more modern and completely safe.
We are currently carrying out a comprehensive, citywide initiative in all of our city’s schools.
We are replacing approximately 10,000 old light fixtures—in classrooms, hallways, offices, and common areas—with new, state-of-the-art LED lighting fixtures.
This intervention is essential for two very important reasons:
First, we ensure comfortable, adequate, and high-quality lighting for our students and teachers, while at the same time achieving a significant reduction in electricity consumption and the environmental footprint of our schools, thereby completing a major energy upgrade.
In addition, the second reason concerns prevention and safety.
Over the years, older light fixtures are prone to polymerization and deterioration of their plastic parts, which creates a risk that they might fall. Children’s safety is a non-negotiable priority, and we replace everything as a precaution to eliminate any risk.
This summer, the maintenance, renovation, and energy-efficiency improvement projects we are carrying out at our schools are perhaps the most numerous and extensive ever undertaken.
In the photos, you can see the pallets from the delivery of the new light fixtures, as well as images from schools where this project has already been completed and the new light fixtures have been installed.
A big thank you to everyone who has been working every day throughout this summer at our schools, as well as to the Deputy Mayor in charge, Annie Kafka, for coordinating this major effort. In the coming days, I will provide a detailed overview of all our initiatives and efforts regarding the schools in Glyfada during this period.”
