The state-of-the-art Glyfada Cultural Centre opens its gates!

A Centre of Culture ! With a hanging amphitheatre! With modern classrooms, spaces for artists’ exhibitions, seminars, workshops, educational activities. With a recording studio. A unique creation. A jewel for Glyfada and Greece 🇬🇷🎼🎙🎶🎸🎵

“The new Glyfada Cultural Centre is a fact!”, stresses the Mayor of Glyfada George Papanikolaou. He adds:

“There are some buildings that are much more than bricks, iron and cement.

Much more than what one sees at first glance.

There are some buildings that symbolize a dream that is finally coming true.

We are delivering to our Glyfada a new, state-of-the-art Cultural Centre – where a few years ago there was a plot of land.

And it took a lot of work, by a lot of people, to make this jewel for our city that you see in the photos.

Complex studies, innovative architectural designs, demolition of old buildings, international competition, demanding preparation of a dossier for securing funding from national resources and many more bureaucratic and technical procedures.

We did it!

Our new building for culture, music and education is now in operation.

And it gives an answer to the agonizing questions of the time:

What can each one of us do to put a little stone in what we call modern Greek culture?

What outlet can we give to children and adolescents who are becoming more and more addicted to mobile and tablet screens every day?

How can we help children who have a talent for music to develop and nurture it?

At the intersection of Bakoyannis and Panagouli streets lies the answer.

A Cultural Centre with a modern 230-seat amphitheatre, ideal for performances and events.

A truly unique amphitheatre, “hanging” above the street and visible to passers-by, inviting them to participate.

With rooms for artists’ exhibitions, where art will find its rightful place.

With classrooms for musical instruments, which will accommodate the students of our conservatory.

Very soon, with a modern music studio, where our city’s musicians – young and old – will be able to record their creations!

At the same time, the building will also serve as a learning centre, hosting seminars, workshops and educational activities. We will come back to all these activities in detail.

A big thank you:

To all those who worked – and there are so many from our municipal authority and not only – to make this project a reality.

To the State and especially to the Ministry of Interior for the funding of the project through the “Antonis Tritsis” programme.

To Latern Construction and the heads of the company, Kostas and Michalis Georgoulis, for the excellent cooperation.

To our team of engineers for the studies and supervision of the project and of course to the architect of our Municipality, Tina Karalis, for the inspiring design and coordination.

It is a great satisfaction for all of us that a special-purpose bequest from as far back as 1965 has been put to good use, giving a real breath of culture and creativity to our city.

Good-looking and well-done”
