An Athenian citizen visited Socrates, with his one-year-old son, asking him to inform him about the education of his child. “It is too late”, the philosopher replied!
When his second child was born, he immediately brought it to the Master.
“You’re late again,” Socrates says to him. “You should have come before birth, normally before conception!”
The philosopher wanted to teach him – and, with him, all future parents – that the psychosomatic health of a child coming into the world is directly related to the previous and ongoing life and health of his parents!
All this, modern medical science has proven with research.
The Municipality of Glyfada is close to young people at this stage of their lives: when they are thinking about having children and starting a family.
On the initiative of the Mayor of Glyfada, George Papanikolaou, a pioneering action of empowerment and support for young couples is being implemented.
“In the meetings we organize we will share our concerns, our worries, our feelings about the most important and sacred role in our lives: that of the parent. We will talk with young people who wish or are trying to become parents, we will talk about their expectations, concerns and feelings in this process. In our municipality we have successfully implemented Parenting School Groups, but this is the first time we will implement an activity for future parents and this is something that has increased interest”, the Mayor stresses.
The sessions are carried out by the Department of Welfare, Social Policy and Gender Equality, which is part of the Social Service of the Municipality of Glyfada.
“The specialized psychologists of our service will listen to the fears and concerns of the future parents, discuss with them the challenges of this beautiful journey and contribute to the psychological preparation for the acceptance of the new role in their lives, so that uncertainty is transformed into security”, says the Deputy Mayor of Social Care and Solidarity Eleni Karahou – Skoutari, who is responsible for the organization of the event.
Coordinating psychologists : Evangelia Theou, Artemis Kourdoglanian.
