“Solidarity is always the best response,” emphasized Glyfada Mayor George Papanikolaou in his special address, as our city hall served as one of two collection points (along with Athens City Hall) for supplies intended for our fellow citizens affected by the wildfires in Attica and Boeotia.
The Municipality of Glyfada and “Together We Can” stand with those affected by the fires, to offer them even the slightest assistance during these first difficult hours. The response has been heartwarming. Here in Glyfada, we filled three trucks with water, sports drinks, juices, cookies, and crackers for the fire victims and firefighters. Cages were also donated for pets that were left unprotected in the fire.
“In this time of struggle and titanic effort, we must stand by them. Together with ‘‘Together We Can,’ we are immediately collecting essential supplies to support the fire-stricken areas and all those on the front lines of the battle to extinguish the fires. “Solidarity is always the greatest response,” Mr. Papanikolaou emphasized in his appeal. At the collection point for supplies, located at our city’s Old City Hall, the Deputy Mayor for Social Welfare and Solidarity, Eleni Karachou-Skoutari, had been present since early morning, Social Services staff and other employees of the Municipality of Glyfada, as well as the volunteer team led by Lena Denaxa, the Municipal Councilor in Charge of Volunteerism.
“In just a few hours, thanks to the heartwarming response from all of you, we’ve filled three trucks with essential supplies to help the fire-stricken areas!”
As you can see in the pictures, these supplies have already been loaded and are being sent immediately to the areas where they are most needed.
